ETIS is a stewarded engineering framework, not a continuously changing software product. Updates emphasize substantive publications, ecosystem releases, educational products, Engineering Platform capabilities, and major architectural improvements rather than routine editorial changes.
August 2026 — ETIS Books Architecture Expanded¶
Framework Reference Work and Professional Computing Series Established¶
The ETIS website now distinguishes two complementary long-form publishing roles.
The ETIS Framework Reference Work, Engineering Trustworthy Intelligent Systems, remains the foundational full-lifecycle work of the ETIS ecosystem. Its Two-Volume Professional Edition presents the integrated framework in two professional volumes spanning system construction, release readiness, operations, governance, oversight, and long-term stewardship.
The ETIS Professional Computing Series provides a separate home for books that develop enduring professional computing capabilities aligned with ETIS.

The book uses data structures and algorithms as the technical teaching vehicle for developing engineering judgment, evidence-based reasoning, tradeoff analysis, AI accountability, systems thinking, and professional responsibility. It is not a conventional data structures textbook, programming guide, or algorithms reference.

The broader website architecture has been updated so the roles of books, publications, education, downloads, and implementation resources remain distinct and connected.
The publishing model is now explicit:
- Framework Reference Work — comprehensive full-lifecycle ETIS treatment;
- Two-Volume Professional Edition — two-volume publishing form of that reference work;
- Professional Computing Series — sustained professional-formation books aligned with ETIS;
- Publications Program — focused, citable White Papers, Executive Briefs, and Education Papers;
- Educational Ecosystem — teaching, learning, tooling, implementation, and adoption guidance;
- Engineering Platform — professional reference and implementation environment for staged, repository-centered engineering;
- Downloads — curated portable editions and implementation products.
This alignment preserves clear boundaries while making it easier for readers to move from professional formation to framework doctrine, focused guidance, education, and practical application.
July 2026 — ETIS Publications Program Released¶

The ETIS Publications Program is now publicly available through three coordinated series:

The distinction is now explicit:
- Publications support discovery, reading, citation, and focused guidance.
- Downloads package books, educational products, archives, and selected implementation resources for offline use.
August 2026 — Engineering Education Suite Expanded¶
ETIS Engineering Studio Added to the Educational Ecosystem¶
The ETIS Educational Ecosystem now includes a coordinated, phase-gate-aware Engineering Education Suite built around three distinct responsibilities:
- ETIS Preflight — student-team readiness analysis before formal phase-gate review;
- ETIS Engineering Studio — instructor-operated student-team environment for frozen-evidence mini-reviews, engineering questions, coaching, challenge, and development of engineering judgment;
- ETIS Engineering Review Center — instructor-facing formal phase-gate review providing rubric evidence, confidence, summaries, and traceable lineage to the submitted repository evidence.
All three components are aware of the current phase gate and prior phase-gate analysis, but readiness, developmental review, and formal evaluation remain intentionally separate.
Engineering Studio uses a controlled multidisciplinary review board working from frozen repository evidence. Students may create multiple snapshots as their engineering work improves, and individual team members can interact independently with reviewers against the same shared evidence. Reviewers coach and challenge rather than provide answers.
The Studio can also direct students to relevant ETIS Engineering Platform stages, Starter Kit guidance, and LMU/COICP reference examples when additional engineering context is needed.
At the formal gate, the Engineering Review Center takes its evidence boundary from the course-designated Git tag. Studio conversations may be visible to the instructor but do not become hidden evidence in the formal gate decision.
The COMP 330/474 flagship implementation uses the suite within a two-cycle semester model: the first five phase gates move from project launch through first release, and the sixth begins an operational enhancement cycle that reinforces the continuing engineering responsibility emphasized in ETIS Volume II.
The Engineering Studio reference implementation is open source and completed production acceptance on August 21, 2026. Production use is instructor- or institution-operated rather than public self-service.

July 2026 — Engineering Platform Release and Ecosystem Alignment¶
ETIS Engineering Platform Starter Kit Completed¶
The ETIS Engineering Platform Starter Kit is complete and publicly available.
The Platform operationalizes the ETIS Framework through:
- Engineering Stages ES-100 through ES-114;
- stage guidance, activities, outputs, evidence expectations, readiness gates, and manifests;
- reusable Template Library;
- completed LMU/COICP reference examples;
- Project Workspace structure;
- governance and evidence-centered engineering assets;
- GitHub collaboration templates and workflows;
- MkDocs-based publication architecture.
This completes the public bridge from ETIS doctrine to practical application.
A new Platform Overview page on the ETIS Framework website now serves as the canonical gateway to the companion Engineering Platform website. Visitors can learn how the Platform fits into the ETIS ecosystem before intentionally launching the implementation environment.
The Framework defines the discipline. Publications provide focused guidance. The Engineering Platform demonstrates how to apply it.
Public Ecosystem Architecture Completed¶
The ETIS public architecture is anchored by two primary repositories: the Framework Repository and the Engineering Platform Starter Kit Repository. These are complemented by specialized educational, community, course, and organization repositories that support focused capabilities while preserving clear responsibility and provenance.

July 2026 — Initial Educational Engineering Tooling Released¶
Instructor and Student Engineering Tools Introduced¶
The ETIS Educational Ecosystem now includes complementary engineering tooling that strengthens repository-centered, evidence-centered engineering education.
Two complementary tools extend the Educational Ecosystem:

ETIS Instructor Engineering Workbench, which assists instructors with evidence-centered repository reviews, lifecycle assessment, engineering evidence evaluation, and review consistency across engineering teams.

ETIS Student Submission Preflight Toolkit, which helps engineering teams evaluate repository organization, engineering evidence, governance artifacts, and phase-gate readiness before formal engineering review.
These tools complement the Engineering Platform while reinforcing the ETIS principle that engineering judgment remains a human responsibility.
These initial tools established the foundation that was expanded in August 2026 into the broader ETIS Engineering Education Suite.
June 2026 — ETIS First Public Release¶
Version 1.0 Public Framework Release¶
The ETIS First Edition established Engineering Trustworthy Intelligent Systems as the foundational Framework Reference Work for engineering trustworthy intelligent systems in the AI era.
The initial public release made ETIS available through:
- the complete online Framework Reference Work;
- the downloadable complete First Edition PDF;
- the initial public Framework website and supporting resources.
The ETIS Two-Volume Professional Edition followed in June 2026 with professionally published paperback and hardcover editions.
The website remains the authoritative and continuously stewarded public source.

The implementation demonstrates how ETIS can operate as a living educational laboratory where students learn professional engineering behavior, repository-centered evidence, AI responsibility, review discipline, operational thinking, and professional defense.
Resource Center and Repository Guidance Released¶
The ETIS website expanded from a book publication site into a public framework ecosystem with:

Release Philosophy¶
ETIS is designed for long-term stewardship rather than rapid change.
The objective is not constant expansion.
The objective is continual improvement in clarity, usability, teachability, applicability, evidence, and trustworthiness.
Major updates should strengthen the ecosystem without diluting the Framework's core discipline, fragmenting the Publications Program, or duplicating the Engineering Platform.
Bottom Line¶
ETIS has matured from a foundational framework reference work into a connected professional engineering ecosystem for the AI era.
The Framework Reference Work defines the discipline and comprehensive lifecycle treatment.
