Scope¶
This page applies generally to the ETIS Framework website and its protected content, including:
- the ETIS book and Two-Volume Edition;
- ETIS white papers, executive briefs, and education papers;
- figures, appendices, and website content;
- downloadable educational products;
- publication metadata and associated assets;
- other original ETIS materials unless separate terms are stated.
Specific repositories, templates, examples, archives, or other resources may be governed by separate license files. Where a resource includes separate terms, those terms control for that resource.
Publication Rights¶
Engineering Trustworthy Intelligent Systems (ETIS) and associated original materials are protected by applicable copyright laws.
Except as permitted by law or authorized in writing by the copyright holder, no substantial part may be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, republished, sold, incorporated into derivative publications, or made available as a substitute for the original work.
Reading, Citation, and Reference Use¶
Readers may:
- read and reference the public website;
- link to public ETIS pages;
- cite the book or individual ETIS publications using standard academic or professional practice;
- quote brief excerpts consistent with fair use, fair dealing, or other applicable legal exceptions;
- apply ETIS ideas, concepts, engineering practices, and educational approaches in their own work.
Permission is not granted to reproduce substantial portions of books, publications, figures, appendices, educational products, or downloadable materials without authorization.
For publication-specific citation formats, use the canonical publication landing page or Citation & Version Information.
Educational Adoption¶
Universities, instructors, and educational institutions are encouraged to teach, adapt, and apply ETIS concepts, practices, and educational models.
Educational adoption may include:
- assigning links to public pages;
- citing ETIS publications;
- applying repository-centered and evidence-centered practices;
- adapting course structures and learning activities;
- using separately licensed templates or repositories according to their own terms.
Redistribution or reproduction of substantial protected ETIS content, educational products, figures, appendices, or instructor materials remains subject to these terms unless separate permission is granted.
AI and Machine Learning Use¶
No permission is granted to use protected ETIS text, figures, appendices, publications, downloadable materials, website content, or associated resources for training, fine-tuning, evaluation-dataset construction, synthetic-data generation, model distillation, or commercial development of artificial intelligence or machine-learning systems without prior written authorization from the copyright holder.
This restriction does not limit lawful quotation, citation, analysis, or ordinary human use of the public materials.
Repositories, Templates, and Starter Kits¶
The ETIS Framework Repository and ETIS Engineering Platform Starter Kit Repository may contain license files governing source code, templates, examples, documentation, or reusable assets.
Users must review and comply with the license included in the specific repository or resource.
A separate repository license does not automatically grant rights to reproduce the ETIS books, publication PDFs, protected figures, or educational products.
Names, Marks, and Endorsement¶
Engineering Trustworthy Intelligent Systems (ETIS), Lakeside Metropolitan University (LMU), Campus Operations and Incident Coordination Platform (COICP), publication-series names, logos, and related project identifiers may be used throughout the ecosystem.
Nothing on this site grants trademark, certification, endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, or affiliation rights.
Use of ETIS concepts does not imply that a course, organization, product, or system is certified, approved, endorsed, or affiliated with ETIS or the author.
No Warranty¶
ETIS materials are provided for educational and informational purposes.
While reasonable efforts are made to support accuracy, clarity, and usefulness, no warranty—express or implied—is made regarding completeness, suitability, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or legal or regulatory sufficiency.
Readers and adopters remain responsible for professional judgment and for compliance with applicable law, regulation, policy, security requirements, contractual obligations, and institutional standards.
No Professional Advice¶
ETIS does not provide legal, regulatory, security, medical, financial, or other licensed professional advice.
Examples and guidance must be evaluated in the reader's actual technical, organizational, legal, and operational context.
